Questions and Answers Jeep Wrangler Hesitation Q. The noise on my 1989 Jeep Wrangler turned out to be a universal joint, like you said to look for. When I bought this Jeep, I was told that the EGR valve was bad, so they capped the hole and adjusted the timing to keep it from knocking. My mechanic said the best thing to do was to buy the replacement from the dealer, (the aftermarket units do not work well), Being on a limited budget, I bought one made by BorgWarner, it hesitated big time. Mechanic says to buy a vacuum delay diaphragm, helped a little. Still hesitates after he adjusted the timing from when I bought it. He still feels that it is the aftermarket EGR that is made to fit several engines where the OEM unit is made for my 4.2. What is your opinion? I spoke with the retailer, said he would issue a refund on the valve if not working right. Appreciate your help, Ralph A. I'm glad I got you pointed in the right direction with that noise. As for this one, I would have to go with your mechanic on this one. Personally, I myself prefer OEM parts to aftermarket and I use Nissan and MB parts on my van and car.
